Throwing parties is always a big responsibility: you need to buy a bunch of food and drinks, take into account everyone’s dietary restrictions, figure out how you are going to entertain your guests, clean up and prepare your whole house before your guests come. Moreover, you have to do all of this and still look good! It can be pretty nerve-wracking.

However, the evening has gone great, everyone had an amazing time. Now what? You are probably left with a ton of trash all over the house, what feels like thousands of plates and glasses, and stains and spills all over the place. Not to mention you are probably very tired and hungover after the night. So what can you do? Of course, you don’t have to clean up the whole place right away. But it is definitely helpful to have a plan in mind that’ll make your life a bit easier.

First of all, the clean up should have started even before the party. You should have unloaded the dishwasher and taken out the trash in advance. It is also always a good idea to put away all the things that are easily breakable: that expensive china vase, the crystal decanter you received for your birthday and so on.

You can have a trash bin in the corner of the living room where the party is taking place, so your guests are incentivized to throw their trash away themselves. Also, keep in mind that any kinds of carpet spills need to be taken care of immediately. So have paper towels and clean cloths around somewhere to be able to deal with those spills right away.

In case if you were not able to prevent stains and spills, use stain removals you are familiar with and that you have tried in the past. Otherwise, you better use professional cleaning services in order not to damage the carpet even more. Professional cleaners have the expertise and knowledge needed, as well as the familiarity of carpet fiber types and stain types. Hire a local Chicago carpet cleaner.

First off in the morning, you want to make sure all trash is taken out. So walk around the house and pick up any cans, bottles, paper cups that the guests have left. Watch out for broken glass just in case, which will need to be swept immediately, along with any small items like peanuts, coins etc. Next, make sure to collect all the plates and silverware and put them in the sink.

This is where an unloaded dishwasher comes in very handy: load it to its fullest and let it do its job. Needless to say that any leftover food should be scraped off of the plates, and at this point, you will probably want to take out the trash from the house. You also might want to disinfect your trash can after taking out the garbage. You will also need to clean and disinfect the bathrooms.

After taking care of the living room and the kitchen, check all the other rooms. Along with water rings all over the tables, there will for sure be some wax from the scented candle. Without panicking, rub some non-gel toothpaste on the water rings and buff with a cloth. Do not scrub the melted wax. Instead, put a few ice cubes in a bag and let it sit on the wax. It will stiffen up and you’ll be able to peel it off without any problem.
